Let great tech optimist Marc Andreesen live next to a giant data center then, if he’s so keen. Of course he’s optimistic — he stands to make billions of dollars while suffer not even one single negative of this technology. Meanwhile, working class areas are without running water due to these behemoths.
You don't have window units in England?! The small window unit in the bedroom of my old Victorian is the only thing that gets me through our infernal Midwestern summers. I can manage to get by with fans everywhere else, but when it's time to sleep on those 90+ nights, air conditioning is a necessity, not a luxury.
When England was able to grow wine grapes during Roman Times, was that climate heat caused by the 300 million people ie the world’s population at the time? Did mankind cause that global warming? And did the coming dark ages with the plague reducing that world population cause the cooling of the earth?
Maybe it was all the SUVs the Romans drove around which people stopped using because in medieval times they forgot how to do stuff like build aqueducts and repair cars.
Why oh why do wsj Journos buy into climate change claptrap and include stupidity in each of their articles? The other day we saw some idiot talk about ICEs excesses and today we get “Heat waves seem to be becoming more frequent and extreme as a consequence of man-made climate change”
Tip to journo, that’s a load of bs. You should know better
A 95 degree heat wave is survivable. A 125 degree heat wave is not. Does anyone think that our grandchildren should have to endure the latter so that we can be comfortable in the former? I assume not... but then the Dark Greens start to look a little more reasonable, don't they? And could anyone who calls themselves pronatalist really rest easy with the "inevitability" of such a scenario?
Based on what I’ve seen on Twitter—not a great barometer for the real world, but let’s go with it for a second—the anti-AC campaign has taken on a cool anti-American flavor. Yankees love AC, so it must be bad. Well, if you prefer being sweaty and miserable all day, that’s your choice. Same with ice. Ice isn’t high-tech; you fill up a tray with water and stick it in the freezer for a few hours and viola! There it is. Most of the people I know don’t have central air, and plenty still don’t have electric ice makers either. They use window outlets and ice trays, just like they have for the past fifty years.

It's crazy that a nearly brand new house in England is impossible to retrofit with AC. My 100 year old house has been retrofitted with central air.

So true - the only way out is through. I guess you’ll now anchor your media career on something other than complaining about contraceptives?
